European soccer power chooses Sounders HQ as World Cup base camp

A prime World Cup base camp is no longer on the market.

The Seattle Sounders on Thursday announced that Belgium's national team will use the Sounders' Renton headquarters as its temporary home during the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. Teams in the international soccer tournament, the most-watched sporting event in the world, will use base camp cities to train and rest for their group-stage matches.

Belgium's first match in the tournament is a June 15 tilt against Egypt in Seattle, followed by a June 21 match in Vancouver, British Columbia and a June 26 match in Inglewood, California.

Belgium has qualified for the World Cup in four consecutive tournaments, and it finished third in 2018. This year's tournament will mark the team's 15th World Cup appearance.
