Pioneer Square to host concerts, beer garden during World Cup
Pioneer Square businesses are spearheading plans to capitalize on the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Cafe and retail shop Hometeam and its founder, Marcus Lalario, are working on activation plans for the neighborhood that include concerts, a beer garden and a 15-by-20-foot LED screen. The Seattle Department of Transportation, meanwhile, is planning to close multiple streets around Pioneer Square, Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park during match days for the international soccer tournament, the most-watched sporting event in the world.
"Energy creates energy. You've got to give people a reason to come and a reason to hang out and give them something special," Lalario said. "It's about bringing people together and having an amazing event."
The stage will remain for the entirety of the six World Cup matches in Seattle, from June 15 to July 6. The festivities will be free to the public, and Lalario's team is building a website for attendees to order food from nearby Pioneer Square or Chinatown International District restaurants.
