Seattle protesters rally against Amazon's ties to ICE, Border Patrol
Dozens of people rallied outside the Amazon Spheres on Friday to protest the companys business ties to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
Protesters chanted for ICE to leave Seattle, called on Amazon to end its cloud contracts with ICE and CBP, and criticized Amazon for tightening its relationship with the Trump administration, including the $75 million it spent to promote and distribute the Melania documentary about first lady Melania Trump.
A spokesperson for Amazon did not immediately return a request for comment.
"
The company knows) Amazon Web Services is being used to power ICE. Their answer is to welcome the business and seek more of it," Eliza, a former Amazon employee who declined to giver her last name, said in a speech. "We, Amazon corporate workers, have a responsibility to call this out. Whether we work in retail, in health care, in media or at Amazon Web Services, we benefit from the profit Amazon generates through its government contracts."
