Here's how much it takes to retire in Washington

Residents of Washington will need at least $967,166 to retire comfortably.

That’s according to an analysis by NetCredit, which calculated the cumulative cost of retirement in all 50 states and countries around the world.

Researchers used average retirement age, average life expectancy and local cost of living as derived from the MIT Cost of Living Index, with an extra 20% to ensure a more comfortable lifestyle.

Washington ranked as the fifth-most expensive state in which to retire, ahead of neighboring states Oregon (No. 11) and Idaho (No. 24).
