Port of Seattle pushes ahead on Fishermen's Terminal renovation

The Port of Seattle approved $5.9 million in funding Tuesday to begin renovations and replace four piers at the northwest dock of Fishermen’s Terminal.

The funds, approved unanimously by the commissioners, will begin the design and permitting process of replacing the oldest portions of the piers on the northwest dock, said Mark Longridge, a capital project manager at the port.

“While still functional, these almost 50-year-old piers are reaching the end of their service life and need to be replaced before any significant failures occur,” the port wrote in a memo.

Fishermen’s Terminal, an inlet between the Ballard Locks and Lake Union, was the port’s first property in Seattle when it opened in 1914, said Delmas Whittaker, the chief operations officer of the port’s maritime division.
