Peter Kwon, Steffanie Fain could be the candidates moving on to November general election runoff in King County's 5th Di
A SeaTac city councilmember and an attorney serving as the board president for Harborview Medical Center could be the two finalists for King County Council in the 5th District this autumn, initial election results suggest.
Peter Kwon and Steffanie Fain are ahead of four other hopefuls in the initial returns for the only open seat on the King County Council this year. Formerly held by Dave Upthegrove, who ascended to the statewide executive department last autumn, the seats current officeholder is DeSean Quinn, who opted not to run for a full four-year term.
Two other candidates are also in the double digits: Kim-Kanh Van and Ryan McIrvin. Both of them are on the Renton City Council. The other two candidates, Ahmad Corner and Angela Henderson, are in the single digits. Like McIrvin, they are too far behind not to make up ground in the late ballots. Van, however, is close enough to Steffaine Fain to potentially contend for second place if late ballots are very favorable to her.
Steffanie Fain is married to Joe Fain, the former Washington State Republican senator who was accused of rape in 2018 and defeated for reelection by Democratic challenger Mona Das. That Senate seat once held by Fain, representing the 47th Legislative District, is now held by Fains predecessor, Claudia Kauffman, who succeeded Das in 2022 to reclaim her previous position.
