Marysville council race too close to call

EVERETT — Dan Perkins and Amber Cantu took the lead in a crowded primary race for a Marysville City Council seat, initial returns showed from Tuesday’s primary.

Dan Perkins, a fifth-grade teacher at the Marysville School District, earned 30 percent of the vote. His campaign prioritized supporting new businesses, improving neighborhood representation and addressing the housing crisis.

Amber Cantu, an educator, trailed Perkins with 21% of the vote. Her priorities were combating drug addition and expanding services for seniors living in the city.

R.J. Whitlow, the owner of 5 Rights Brewing in downtown Marysville, earned 19% the vote. He ran a campaign as someone who was “not a political candidate,” he previously said, focusing on maintaining government accountability while improving public safety and quality of life.
