Microsoft cuts more jobs in Washington amid fresh round of layoffs

Microsoft is laying off 40 more Washington employees in a new round of cuts, as the tech giant continues to shift its labor and investments to focus on artificial intelligence.

A spokesperson for Redmond-based company confirmed that the layoffs, disclosed in a state filing Monday, are a new round of cuts, adding to the more than 15,000 employees Microsoft has laid off this year companywide, including 6,000 people in May and 9,000 in July.

In Washington state, where Microsoft is the third-largest employer, the cuts have affected more than 3,100 employees.

"Organizational and workforce changes are a necessary and regular part of managing our business," a spokesperson for the company said in a prepared statement. "We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners."
