Republican State Senator John Braun is running against Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for Congress in Washington's 3rd District

Minority Leader John Braun — the top Republican in the Washington State Senate — has decided to challenge Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for Congress in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District in 2026, according to his campaign website, which is currently undergoing a makeover but has been retitled “John Braun for Congress.”

Braun, fifty-eight, has reportedly been thinking about running for Congress for a little while, as has Washington State Republican Party Chair Jim Walsh.

Both of them were mentioned as possible candidates in a recent story about who the party might put up against the state’s most recently elected Democratic member of Congress, which appeared in The Washington State Standard.

-snip-

The talking is evidently over and done with: Braun is running.
