Meet the three progressive lawyers hoping to unseat Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison
Seattles municipal elections may be officially nonpartisan, but in a city where nearly seven out of ten voters identify as strongly or somewhat Democratic, its rare for voters to elect a candidate affiliated with the Republican Party. Four years ago, though, Republican Ann Davison successfully eclipsed abolitionist Nicole Thomas-Kennedy to become the Emerald Citys chief legal officer after three-term incumbent Pete Holmes, a Democrat, failed to advance to the November general election.
Despite having run for Lieutenant Governor in 2020 as a Republican, Davison pitched herself as an independent thinker with a history of supporting Democrats.
I am not a partisan, she claimed on her 2021 campaign website.
Im an independent thinker and a Seattle mom, not an activist ideologue. This approach is vitally important to implement our laws and to enhance public health and safety in Seattle. The political extremes seek to make cooperation a dirty word and solving problems nearly impossible. As a moderate Democrat, I voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. In 2016, I caucused for Hillary Clinton in the 46th Legislative District and then voted for her in the presidential election. Last year, I voted for Joe Biden over Donald Trump. I consider what occurred at the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021, to be disgusting, dangerous, democracy-threatening, and contrary to everything I believe and value in our nation.
