Danville Councilman set on fire; suspect arrested for attempted murder

A man has been charged for a fire attack Wednesday on Danville City Councilman J. Lee Vogler, who is being treated in a hospital.

No word has been released regarding Vogler’s condition.

Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding following the attack by burning.

Danville Police say Vogler was attacked Wednesday, July 30. Around 11:30 a.m., officers and firefighters were called to the 700 block of Main Street.

Based on witness information, the attacker walked into Vogler’s workplace, Showcase Magazine, confronted him and doused him with a flammable liquid, according to Danville Police. The victim and suspect walked out of the building, where the man set the victim on fire.

Apparently this was due to a "personal matter" and not due to politics.
