VA-AG: Jones (D) and Miyares (R) traded blows in Virginia attorney general race
RICHMOND, Va. As November's election draws closer, the race for Virginia's attorney general is heating up, with incumbent Republican Jason Miyares and Democratic challenger Jay Jones, a former State House Delegate, engaged in a tough race.
Both candidates are holding little back, exchanging critiques on qualifications, public safety, and political loyalties.
"Look at his record in the General Assembly; he's one of the most left-wing legislators ever in the history of the Virginia legislature," Miyares said of his opponent. He feels he has the advantage when it comes to law and order and public safety.
Miyares touts the "Ceasefire Virginia" initiative as a primary reason for a drop in crime: "More Virginians are alive today than when I took office because our murder rate has dropped one-third... in our targeted ceasefire cities, [it] has dropped 66 percent." Miyares also noted that the state has the largest drop in drug addiction death rates in the country. He believes Jones is not qualified for the job because he's never served as a prosecutor.
