CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Cuts to federally funded programs are taking their toll on the University of Virginia.

UVA told 29News that, as of Friday afternoon, they have two stop work orders on federally funded programs, and 34 research grant terminations.

“The total value of the terminated awards is $63,162,913 with $21,053,581 of the awards having been spent to date,” said UVA spokesperson Bethanie Glover in an email to 29News. “This includes the largest award cancellation we’ve received to date, a $20M awarded through a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program established by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.”

The program funds workforce development, childcare centers, healthy housing, community centers, telehealth hubs, river stewardship and more in multiple localities in Southwest Virginia, Glover added.
