Text message from 'Team Abbott' in San Antonio mayoral race raises concerns from voters

San Antonio mayoral candidate Rolando Pablos assured voters during recent appearances that he's his "own man," despite hefty backing from a political action committee (PAC) connected to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.

However, a text message blasted out this week to registered Bexar County voters by an entity identifying itself as "Team Abbott" is prompting social media users to question just how independent a candidate Pablos is.

On Tuesday, some Bexar voters received a text message from "Kevin" with "Team Abbott," reminding them that early voting in the city's 2025 mayoral election was underway. The message also included a link to a list of polling stations.

"I want to believe that the office of Mayor in San Antonio is a nonpartisan seat, but when the office of Greg Abbott is texting me to vote for their guy, it kind of negates that position," local bar owner Aaron Peña tweeted Wednesday about the text.
