Columbia city councilwoman claims runoff opponent's supporters are behind 'vicious' online attacks
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Columbia City Councilwoman Aditi Bussells claims her opponent in Tuesdays runoff election, Sam Johnson, is not addressing alleged hateful messages she claims were sent to her by his supporters.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Bussells addressed what she called vicious attacks online that she has recently received. She also claimed Johnson is allowing his top supporters to weaponize racism and misinformation.
In her post, Bussells shared screenshots of messages and comments she received from both Facebook and Instagram. One of which demands that she be deported, while others contain Islamophobic language. Bussells also acknowledged in her post that some accounts were using fake names and other online aliases.
The councilwoman has also called on Johnson to issue a public apology and to drop out of the runoff election
