Pa. Dem pushes to keep third-term presidential candidates off ballots

President Donald Trump has previously floated the idea of running for a third term, despite the two-term limit established by the U.S. Constitution.

Though Trump has more recently backed away from that notion, a Pennsylvania lawmaker is interested in making sure that — at least in the commonwealth — his name stays off the ballot.

Rep. Chris Pielli said he’s preparing a resolution that would instruct the secretary of state to remove candidates from the ballot if they do not meet the legal requirements for the positions they’re pursuing.

“This will demonstrate to Pennsylvanians that their government is committed to ensuring that their elected officials are chosen properly while sending a message to all political candidates that we remain a country of laws and they cannot cheat their way to power,” the Chester County Democrat wrote in a Jan. 5 memo.
