Election 2025: Democrats sweep in Bethlehem in final tally
DELMAR Last Tuesdays election in Bethlehem saw the towns Democratic ticket for Supervisor, two Town Board seats, town clerk and highway superintendent trounce Republican hopefuls by a nearly 3-to-1 margin. While they all emphasized their love of Bethlehem, the returning Democratic incumbents share a very different perspective from their Republican challengers on the elections implication for the town.
Town of Bethlehem Supervisor David VanLuven and board member David DeCancio both returned to office viewed the decisive vote as an endorsement of the Town Boards actions and policies. With more than 11,000 votes counted, VanLuven defeated his Republican opponent, James McGaughan, by a margin of 8,072 votes to 3,402, or 72% to 29%. The other Town races saw similar results.
Although not viewing the election as a repudiation of the Republicans, VanLuven said the vote was an affirmation we are on the right track rather than a rebuttal of a different view.
Our residents and business owners appreciate and share a positive view of our community, said VanLuven. Its a wonderful place to live and we are doing things to keep it that way.
