Carbon County Election Office tackles mold issue

JIM THORPE, Pa. — The Carbon County Election Office has been on Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe for just a few years. Now, county commissioners are dealing with a mold remediation project.

"It's just like somebody building a brand new home, you move in and think everything is alright. Elections is very important to the county," said Commissioner Rocky Ahner.

Commissioner Ahner says four rooms were affected, which house election equipment and a ballot counting room. Election staff noticed it back in July while preparing for the upcoming election.

"When they took the bags back off the shelf, that's when they could see the mold, and the more we investigated and took things away from the wall, here it was growing into the carpet and everything."
