State Election Board votes to keep Adam Pugh on State Superintendent Ballot, despite contest from opponent
OKLAHOMA CITY - Constitutional Law at The Center of Rep. Hasenbecks Argument.
According to court filings, Hasenbeck is citing a part of Oklahomas constitution that bars lawmakers from being elected to a state position if compensation for that position is increased while the lawmaker was in office.
In November 2025, the Statewide Official Compensation Commission voted to increase the state superintendents salary from around $124,000 to $175,000 to take effect during the new term.
Hasenbeck argues this change happened during Pughs current term as senator, which takes him out of the running. She also claims he cannot run for the position because his legislative term, which is active through November 2028, overlaps with the new term for state superintendent, which would begin on Jan. 11, 2027.
