Election integrity bill passes Ohio House of Representatives
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) Wednesday evening, the Ohio House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 293, an election integrity bill that changes the rules on mail-in voting and voter registration.
S.B. 293 was initially one of two election integrity bills proposed by Sen. Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) but in a rare move, Republican lawmakers decided this week to combine the legislation to fast-track its passage by the House.
S.B. 293 will require a voters mail-in ballot to be delivered to their board of elections by the time polls close on Election Day to be counted, eliminating the four-day grace period after Election Day. That was combined with another piece of legislation requiring the Secretary of State to verify the citizenship of registered voters every month.
Because the bill contains new language, the Senate must concur before it can be sent to the Governor. Senate President Rob McColley (R-Napoleon) said Wednesday evening his caucus would vote to concur.
