WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Two days after a massive explosion at a Wilmington veterinary clinic, leaders are speaking out on recovery efforts.

Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center Hospital Administrator Gary Walker calls the explosion surreal.

The explosion on New Centre Drive injured five firefighters Tuesday afternoon. Fire officials said the cause comes down to a driver that hit a gas line after he veered off the road. The building exploded minutes later.

Walker said he first got a call from the fire alarm monitoring company who told him the alarms were going off in the building. Since it was a new building, he didn’t think much of it.
