Rensselaer County Board of Elections retabulates 528-60 library ballot defeat

STEPHENTOWN — More people claim they voted for a Stephentown Memorial Library budget proposal than what was reported in unofficial election results on Nov. 4.

Though the amount of “yes” votes claimed by voters would still result in an overwhelming defeat of the proposition, which unofficial results showed was shot down by 89% of voters, the disparity was large enough to convince the Rensselaer County Board of Elections to review the final numbers.

The number of “affirmation” forms the library had shared with election officials on Tuesday was 120. By Wednesday afternoon, the library had accumulated 155 forms.

“I let the library know that we’re going to go the extra step,” said Rensselaer County Republican Elections Commissioner Henry Zwack. “If there’s an anomaly, we will find it, and if there’s a change, we will change it and certify it to what we determine to be the actual, real vote.”
