Two qualify in Justice Court Judge special election

NATCHEZ — A special election to be held on Nov 4. includes two candidates vying for the Justice Court Judge Northern District of Adams County seat vacated by Audrey Minor in September of 2024.

Two candidates qualified to run by the Aug. 21 deadline, including former Justice Court Clerk Verna Johnson and Shameca Collins.

Collins currently holds the seat after being appointed by the Adams County Board of Supervisors and served a term as Sixth District Attorney before she was defeated by Tim Cotton in the 2023 election. Collins’ campaign emphasized the importance of justice, fairness and progressive tactics to rehabilitate those citizens who’ve “lost their way.”

Johnson said she has 15 years of service in the justice system, including her previous role as Justice Court Clerk.
