Why were many DFLers shouting in front of the governor's office

when he was meeting with reps of both parties to negotiate the budget?

We had a generous surplus that disappeared in two years. Something got to give.

I have not followed the discussion closely but this scene was disgraceful.

Found something:

Dozens gathered outside the Minnesota House chamber Friday to protest a key policy change DFL and GOP leaders agreed to, in order to ink a budget deal: Remove adult undocumented immigrants from the state's health care program by the end of the year – but let children remain eligible for coverage.

Faith leaders and advocates held signs that said, "We stand with immigrants" and "Empathy: good government's superpower!" as they read aloud anonymous stories of people who have received life-saving treatment or medications since they were allowed to enroll in MinnesotaCare on Jan. 1. The state program provides health coverage for people with low-incomes not covered by Medicaid on January 1.

9. The town hall meetings must have driven you nuts. My first thought was, "Too bad there wasn't a ship laden with tea."

We're either "One Minnesota" or we're not. Cutting healthcare coverage is a shit move no matter who gets cut.

its emergency services. Yes, same emergency services that are available to anyone regardless of insurance.

From where are we going to find funds for all the wish lists?

They acted irresponsibly two years ago with the generous programs.

These aren't wish lists. These are services provided to neighbors and friends.

there are public health/medical/economic reasons to insure adult immigrants. Refusing vaccinations or medical care to any group of people creates a vulnerable population where diseases can flourish evolve and get passed into the general population in new and unexpected forms. Voila! Covid redux!
At least, by covering children, they may function as an early warning system if novel viruses begin to emerge, and maybe- I say maybe- Such novel evolved viruses may be discovered and treatments developed before too many people die. But given the state of our federal health system after Doge defenestration, I wouldn’t bet the back 40 on it. And even if such measures can be taken, the people exposed through the children in class could develop long term effects, like long covid!
Can you feel confident the person who passes you in the grocery store is not carrying one of these novel viruses? What if their novel vir
us has exchanged genes with something virulently contagious, like measles? What kind of outbreaks will we see next Christmas, when everyone is inside, breathing the same air? Can you expect to even be informed, let alone advised or protected, by the idiots running the US government?
That’s why they were banging on the doors.
I am fortunate to live in an apartment complex with many immigrant families. I see them going to work in the morning, meeting the school bus in the afternoon and watching their kids play in the pools. One grandmother I see in her hijab every day walking her little grandson around the complex, patiently holding his hand. Her son brings him most mornings. He’s a fire fighter. When I needed aides last year after a surgery, they all wore hijabs. They were unfailingly sweet, devoted to their families, hard working and loyal. These are good people and they will make a wonderful contribution to our society.
