https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2021/12/18/its-everything-everyone-fears-first-minnesota-firefighter-dies-from-covid-19/UPSALA, Minn. (WCCO) Hundreds throughout the state collectively mourned the loss of Upsala Fire Captain Brian Lange Saturday morning.
Lange, who had been with the department for 23 years, passed away at age 55 on Dec. 11 from complications due to COVID-19. His death, ruled a line of duty death, marks the first for a firefighter in the state since the pandemics onset. He left behind a wife and two children.
Today, all of Minnesotas 20,000 firefighters are grieving his loss and realizing it could have been any one of us any day, said Jay Wood of the Minnesota Fire Service Foundation. All of us think about that, and thats the risk of the job every day.

My hometown. Both he and his wife came down with COVID the first week of December. She pulled through, he didn't. He went from a healthy man to dead in 2 weeks. Given how conservative my hometown is, I'm fairly certain he wasn't vaccinated either.

(38,958 posts)1. Not vaccinated

(5,791 posts)2. 99% of the stories do not mention Covid. I guess we know why.
No one wanted to admit he died of COVID, even his own obituary. Dying of COVID in Trumpland is like dying of AIDS in the early 80's.

(5,791 posts)4. I'm from San Francisco. Those early AIDS deaths were horrible. No vaccine, not enough knowledge.
This death was probably preventable with a vaccine. Ironic that this guy and his "faith" community probably thought they didn't need the science and politicized an illness and a vaccine against a deadly disease, yet his career was based on the science of fire fighting, and he most certainly would not have gone into a burning building without his 02 and a suit. He's no hero.

(19,926 posts)6. I'm certain it will come up next week when I go home for Xmas
It's gonna be interesting talking to a few of my Trumper family members.

It's more relaxing. Keep your mask on!

(4,028 posts)5. The unvaccinated should not be given "line of duty death" designations

The EMT's certainly have ample opportunity to observe the anguish of COVID. To have that first hand knowledge and disregard the vaccine is mind boggling.

Could those 20,000 Minnesota firefighters please go and get a lifesaving vaccination?
Their communities need them.
