Mark Hackel (D) runs for fifth term as Macomb County executive

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is running for a fifth term, saying there are still opportunities for the county to pursue.

Hackel, a Democrat, is the only candidate who has filed for the position so far, according to a Macomb County candidate list last updated on Friday morning. The deadline to file is April 21.

"I enjoy the job," the 63-year-old. "I like what I'm doing, and I'm fortunate I get a great team of people that have really helped make a difference and have impacted the county in so many different ways."

Hackel is Macomb County's first and only county executive after county voters in 2009 adopted a county charter, which included 13 county commissioners and an elected executive. Before that, he served for 10 years as Macomb County sheriff, a position his father previously held.
