Detroit mayoral candidates agree to 1 debate, 1 joint appearance so far
With early voting underway for Detroit's November 4 general election, the two mayoral candidates have so far agreed to a single televised debate and another event where both will appear but take questions separately.
The televised debate between the Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr. and Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield takes place at 7 p.m. Oct. 15. It will be broadcast live on WXYZ-Channel 7 and streamed across its digital platforms. WXYZ's public affairs director Chuck Stokes and anchor Carolyn Clifford will moderate.
At 11 a.m. on Oct. 30, both candidates will appear at a Detroit Economic Club luncheon held at the MotorCity Casino Hotel, 2901 Grand River Ave. Each candidate will take questions separately from moderator Jason Colthrop, WDIV-Channel 4 anchor and reporter.
It was unclear if any other events where both candidates will appear and take questions will take place, with both campaigns saying Oct. 15 televised debate and the Oct. 30 luncheon are the only confirmed events so far.
