Dalton saw a sharp increase in town meeting and election participation, thanks to interest in big issues and contested r

DALTON — With hot issues and contested races driving interest, Dalton experienced its strongest attendance in years for its recent town meeting and elections.

According to unofficial results provided by Town Clerk Heather Hunt, 1,084 voters participated in the town election, and a total of 311 voters attended the two-part town meeting. They made their voices heard by rejecting articles, electing new faces and calling out what they said is town government’s lack of transparency.

“[It was an] absolute indication of Dalton residents' desire for change,” Michele Marantz, chair of the Dalton Democratic Town Committee, said.

Hunt said the increase in voters was “the biggest turnout for both the annual town meeting and election” she has seen in her four years in the position.
