I have been avoiding protests. I have been avoiding the possibility of being caught on camera being political and being seen by a co-worker or customer, and losing my job or losing a customer. But I have been quite sick of what's been going on. Two friends went to a protest earlier this year and I thought: "I need to get with the program." Because things have gotten too bad, and I have to learn to be comfortable in my beliefs when I'm in the minority, and at risk. So, when my middle sister mentioned the protest, I found one near me. She was going to the one in Annapolis. My eldest sister was going to the one in central Florida. I went to the one in Glen Burnie. I didn't have a sign. I just had a flag. And I brought a chair. And I came early enough to have a space on the front line. There were 200-500 of us. I'd say about 500 cars went by and maybe 1/4th to 1/3rd gave supportive honks. A few even had their own signs. And lots of people filmed it. (Videos) So, little old me is on camera. Waving my flag. Surrounded by people with anti-Trump signs. About 10 cars gave us the finger. One of the protesters watched with me to see if we got honks from pick-up trucks (Yes, we were sterotyping.). We got a few. There were 5 police on bicycles across the street. We didn't seem like a rowdy bunch, but I found myself hoping that nothing crazy would happen. I left after about a little less than 2 hours. The event was from 5-7. I wanted to walk down the street and see the signs. I did get to drive by and one really struck me. The teenager holding it was about 13-16. And it said: "Elect a Rapist, Expect to Get FUCKED". It was quite brave. I'm not sure if she realized it. Employers and schools check social media. I hope it won't cost her anything. I think this will be my first of many. I will not have an anti-Trump sign. But I will have a sign that says I love my country, and I intend to champion democracy.
