New Orleans short nearly 300 poll workers ahead of Oct. 11 municipal election

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Dozens of potential poll workers traded their weekend football tailgate for a criminal courtroom gallery Saturday (Sept. 13), where officials held a training session on holding secure elections in New Orleans.

“I’m from Washington state, so I usually just vote by mail,” said candidate Ella Comstock. “This is actually going to be my first time with a voting machine ever and that’s pretty exciting.”

Comstock is studying architecture at Tulane University. She says she wanted to get involved in her new community and learned about this opportunity online.

“Most of the elections in New Orleans are on a Saturday, so that’s really convenient as a student,” she said.
