IA-SD01: Early voting begins in Iowa State Senate special election
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) Eligible Sioux City voters can begin casting their votes Wednesday in the Iowa State Senate District 1 special election. Thats according to the Woodbury County Commissioner of Elections.
The special election is set for August 26, but as of August 6, the Woodbury County Auditors Office will begin mailing out requested absentee ballots. Starting the same day, voters can cast their ballots early in person at the County Auditors Office within the Woodbury County Courthouse in downtown Sioux City. The hours for early in-person voting are 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. weekdays through Monday, August 25, and 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23.
Only voters from local precincts 1 through 22 are included in Iowa State Senate District 1 and are eligible to vote, so its a good idea to check which precinct your neighborhood is in on the Woodbury County elections website. On the day of the election, voters must cast their ballots at their precincts polling location, so verifying your precinct could be helpful for that reason, as well.
The special election comes after the death of former Iowa State Senator Rocky De Witt, who passed away in June following a battle with cancer.
