IA-HD78: Gov. Reynolds sets date for House District 78 special election

DES MOINES, Iowa — Gov. Kim Reynolds has announced the date for a special election to fill the vacant House District 78 seat.

The seat was left vacant after Rep. Sami Scheetz (D) resigned on April 1 to serve on the Linn County Board of Supervisors. He was in the middle of his second term.

Iowa law states a special election must be announced "at the earliest practical time" since the general assembly is in session.

In her Tuesday special election proclamation, Reynolds set the date for April 29 in the district, which is largely made up of Linn County.
