Decatur citizens sue over election results

Decatur advocates said at least 100 votes were not counted in the recent mayoral election, while people received incomplete ballots.

Now, they are suing the City of Decatur to conduct a new mayoral election.

Retired businessman Kent Lawrence won the Aug. 26 election with 54% of the vote. A runoff would have been required if Lawrence had received less than 50%, roughly 200 ballots.

City councilmember Billy Jackson received 42% of the vote.
