Shasta County reports election ballot discrepancy under review
REDDING, Calif. Shasta County officials are investigating a ballot discrepancy discovered during a routine review of election records after the June 4 election.
County leaders released details of the incident following a special meeting of the Board of Supervisors on Saturday, June 6. According to the county, workers conducting a standard reconciliation of early voting records found discrepancies suggesting that a small number of additional ballots may have been distributed to voters before Election Day by one employee.
Officials also said some election reports generated through California's Election Information Management System may not have been properly balanced before they were run.
The county said election documents and working materials were initially secured in a locked cabinet while employees paused their review. During that time, another employee removed the documents, made copies, and provided them to the Clerk and Registrar of Voters, Clint Curtis, before securing them in another locked office.
