Former President Bill Clinton, the ex-Arkansas governor, is referenced dozens of times in the trove of Jeffrey Epstein documents released Wednesday.
The files paint a picture of two powerful people who knew each other, but how well was not clear based on the records. The federal House Oversight Committee posted online more than 20,000 pages of documents related to Epstein, the late financier and sex trafficker and enduring political lightning rod.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazettes initial review of the reams of Epstein emails, notes and court papers found that much of what was said about Clinton came from people quoting Epstein. A few of the references to Clinton were made by Epstein or one of his accusers placing Clinton in Epsteins presence.
Epstein frequently cited his association with Clinton in talks with prosecutors and in legal documents as he sought to derail his felony prosecution in Florida and as he later pursued a lenient sentence.
