"Clean coal" is an oxymoron if there ever was one.

This used to be a coal town, but the mine was closed 45 years ago. In hot, calm weather such as we're having now, the shale oil seeps almost imperceptibly out of the rocks and can be seem as a faint haze on the surface of rock pools. A reminder of how polluting it is.

Chicago's coal mine is in a museum as an exhibit. I've always found it a bit creepy.

On hot days it pays to get down to the beach early - the march flies don't get up until twenty to eight.
