Fox at the birdfeeder

Snapped this from my office window. I put bird food on the stump. Usually birds, squirrels, and turkey show up, Skippa is unaware of the visitor.

1. I see a fox occasionally run across our backyard. And my brother has foxes at his birdfeeder sometimes.

Beautiful!

When I lived up at touristown in the mountains there was a fox who, for years, peed on my porch nearly every night. I discovered that they are rather omnivorous and will eat anything from rodents to bird seed and suet. In winter they look so full and fluffy yet in the warmer months they look like they are starving to death they way their bodies are shaped.

I hope Skippa doesn't get too fired up about it once he discovers their presence. This one may have a den in the woods nearby. Although, I have seen foxes play with dogs who discover them out in their territory, especially in winter, could be fun to watch. Domestic dogs often see them as playmates where larger wild canids would be hostile towards them. I used to give a Ranger Talk about that when I worked for NPS.

And good morning, +3F here this morning, so far, caught a quick glimpse of the moon setting through a hole in the cloud, that's all we get right now. Supposed to be cold like this into next week with occasional snow. We got about 18" over the past few days.

7. The Skippa would put up a fiece chase, but at the end of the day, he'd probably appreciate a 4 legged friend

to play with. Skippa eats well, so no kill-for-survival skills.
