Entre Nous
: between us
: in confidence
[Verse 1]
We are secrets to each other
Each one's life a novel
No one else has read
Even joined in bonds of love
We're linked to one another
By such slender threads
We are planets to each other
Drifting in our orbits
To a brief eclipse
Each of us a world apart
Alone and yet together
Like two passing ships
[Chorus]
Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes fear to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow
[Verse 2]
We are strangers to each other
Full of sliding panels
An illusion show
Acting well rehearsed routines
Or playing from the heart?
It's hard for one to know
[Chorus]
Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes fear to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow
[Verse 3]
We are islands to each other
Building hopeful bridges
On a troubled sea
Some are burned or swept away
Some we would not choose
But we're not always free
[Chorus]
Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
The differences we sometimes fear to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room for you and I to grow

(2,984 posts)1. Thanks much for this! Here's a little info for music nerds...
...especially those who are Alex Lifeson fans. On this track, Lifeson wanted to use a 12-string acoustic, but when he pulled it out of the case, it had developed a crack which affected the tone negatively. So instead, Lifeson and their producer (Terry Brown) decided to double-track two acoustic guitars, one in normal concert pitch and the other in "Nashville tuning". This is an alternate tuning where the octave strings from a 12-string set are used to replace the top four (lowest) strings on a 6-string guitar. The two tracks are then panned left and right to create a really big "12-string" out of two 6-strings.
