Related: About this forumI finally finished my second cat painting.
This is Jeoffry. I'd started this back in March, but Jeoffry passed away suddenly in May from an aortic thromboembolism. I couldn't work on it until recently but I had to finish it in his memory. Still miss him a lot.

(38,350 posts)Your composition, contrast of color between the gray cat and the bright blanket, is lovely.
I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to complete. Ya did good!

(12,082 posts)My wife specializes in pet portraits, and has sold quite a few. If that interests you, you should consider it, even though there isn't a ton of money in it. Who knows? Perhaps you'll fall into a pool of people where money is no object, when it comes to their pets.

My kitty soulmate was named Rosie. She passed away in 2007, and I still often think of her.

(53,410 posts)You caught that natural inborn sense of relaxed feline regality that cats have without even trying. Jeoffrey owns those colorful surroundings and knows how to use them to great effect.
It reminds me a little of ancient stylized Egyptian art where the heads are always in profile while the shoulders and torso are depicted frontally and the legs are also in profile. I like the contrast of the sharp lines and shapes of the material with his draped and relaxed body depicted in soft colors and a smooth furry coat. His arm and paw are perfectly rendered to show a slightly tense balance yet with a feeling of sleek ease. Painting his head in profile is incredibly striking, giving the quality of cat-ness which to us, as observers, is so mysterious. Its a wonderful painting.

(126,935 posts)I think I still have a bit of touching-up to do. There's one more cat portrait to do (of my own cats), but she'll be the most difficult because she's basically a heap of fur with eyes. This makes getting a good photo more difficult. Also, she got a lion cut this summer and her fur is still evening out - I'll probably wait a few months before tackling that one.
