The real reason religions ban suicide

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Starry Messenger (a host of the Socialist Progressives group).

Religions are mostly about control, blame and punishment. They devote most of the time and energy to blaming and punishing in order to maintain their dominant position in society. Suicide gives people a way to choose to avoid their punsihment. Of course the result is no existence at all for the one who suicides, but the people who are watching get the satisfaction of seeing others avoid the wrath of the religions. So in that sense it is liberating and therefore must be banned by the faiths.

So doing harm to it is destroying that metaphorical Temple.

with the pain that suicide causes others?

I know two people whose spouses committed suicide, one person whose son killed himself. Decades later, they are still coping with the pain.

I think your analysis is way too simplistic.

Those things are left to God, such that it is left to God's action. If that leads to some control, it would seem to be more the nature of the beast -- so to speak.
