(43,770 posts)Were sort of hanging around outside the school garden gate, and when I left to go to my car, they shyly came up to me and their "spokesperson" said, "We wanted to tell you you're pretty."
Awwww.....

(2,277 posts)Many years ago, when I was starting out as an elementary school teacher, we had to do the dreaded lunchroom duty. There was a strict no talking policy to expedite the time children spent having lunch. One little boy, with big eyes, held up his hand and said "Miss H-------, are you a princess?" I smiled and said "Yes, yes I am". I'll never forget the looks on the children's faces.

(1,445 posts)I had been stationed in South Korea for about three months and being the SNCO of the section, I streamlined how we supported everyone. I had to brief a new independent duty medical technician (IDMT) from across base on how we would support him and the procedures/paperwork to request medical supplies. He was accompanied by IDMT he was replacing and after the briefing, the old IDMT said he wished I had arrived about six months ago because the only reason he didn't request an extension to his assignment was because of how hard it was for him to get support from us.

They were compliments that broke my heart.

(299,344 posts)Well over a decade ago, I told him I thought hed be a good person to take over one of my courses.
I told him to come and help himself to any of the text books and journals and come up with his own ideas for the way forward.
He called to tell me that he was just promoted at a university in Canada and wanted to thank me. Then he paid me the compliment - he said you told me to use my imagination and come up with my own course outline and plans. You said this will now be your course not mine.
I laughed and said if we dont trust the young ones to be able to do what we were allowed to do, then we were really bad lecturers/teachers.

(25,203 posts)Thanks for telling it.

(207 posts)Really, dark purple hair, and a little girl (maybe five or six) walked past me and said, "I love your princess hair!"
Made my day and still makes me smile all these years later. I've since gone back to blond, so I don't have princess hair anymore.

(15,220 posts)said to the band after our set, "That was the greatest thing I've ever heard in my life!". (This was a band that could best be described as Ornette Coleman meets The Allman Brothers.)
We just silently looked at each other after he said that, and the guitarist said to him, "Don't get out much, hunh?".
