The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsOkay Senior DUers. Who wants to explore Tai Chi walking with me?
I don't need the chair Tai Chi, but I understand most of them will give you options for both. You don't need a lot of space. Movements are doable in your own living room and though there are free apps, I am willing to buy into one of the programs if results are guaranteed. Since I live in Florida and the hot summer months are coming, I need cool options.
What has anyone heard about it? Any suggestions?

(37,880 posts)Once in the early 70s and again a couple of years ago.
Did have lots of health benefits, like balance muscle stretching.
Just never kept up after the classes. Most of my interest was its relationship to Taoism.

(52,582 posts)It interests me because I usually walk and jog, but as I get older I definitely feel like some of my muscle groups are being underutilized.

(41,041 posts)I got to where I had to take a day off after every workout cuz of my knees. I can bounce every day. Also, IDK how, but rebounding fixed a hip issue I've had for six years. I think my jawline & neck look firmer, too.

(390 posts)I had done taekwondo for 25 years, so during tai chi I yearned to kick someone.

The only thing I. Do now is slog. Slow jogging. In my mid 70s and I try to do 3 to 5 miles 3 or 4 days a week. Takes me about an hour. Yesterday I picked up the pace and moved up to a jog and did it in 45 minutes. Feel like I need some strength training now.
Best part is it really helps with warding off depression. Also I have neuropathy and i feel like it helps from it getting worse. No problem with blood sugar but both my brother and my father had it too.

(52,582 posts)I was slogging 5K's two times a week. Then suddenly I sprouted a weight gain that as much as I tried, I couldn't stop and my knees just stopped cooperating. So I need to lose that weight before I can start up again.
For me, that level of exercise helped remove the excess salts, which may have helped keep my BP down. So, I am hoping that my health will improve if I can find something that will help me stay fit without doing further damage to my knees.

(23,738 posts)then found out it was $39.99 a month. Then there was the 'nutritional supplement' offer and the personal coach offer. I declined both then after a few more attempts to worm more money out of me, I decided to chuck it and canceled.
Well about 5 minutes later the confirmation of the cancellation came back and an offer to try it for 99 cents a month good until I cancelled. So I said what the hell and did that
So I had to get an app ( of course) and it only works on my phone. So I am cancelling again. I want something on Youtube or that I can get on my laptop. The one posted above may work just fine.

(52,582 posts)I started walkfit, and though I can benefit from the exercise, it's not tai chi as it claimed to be. Just walking in place. So, after I complete the 28 days program I'll come back and take a look at the yoga you recommend.
