https://au.variety.com/2025/tv/news/annie-lennox-records-theme-for-final-season-of-outlander-31223/
The opening credits sequence showcases Lennoxs vocal prowess, beginning with a tender a cappella performance before building to her characteristic powerful crescendo with accompanying strings. Her interpretation brings fresh emotional weight to the Scottish folk tune that has defined the series since its debut.
Ive loved and sung The Skye Boat Song since I was a young girl growing up in Aberdeen, Lennox revealed. It represents such an iconic part of Scottish culture and history and its a real honour to have been asked to record it for Outlanders final season.
The melody of The Skye Boat Song has long been paired with Robert Louis Stevensons 1892 poem Sing Me a Song of a Lad That Is Gone. However, composer Bear McCreary adapted the lyrics slightly for Outlander, changing them to Sing Me of a Song of a Lass That Is Gone to reflect the shows female protagonist, Claire Fraser, portrayed by Caitríona Balfe.
The theme has undergone various musical transformations throughout the Outlander seasons. Initially performed by McCrearys wife Raya Yarbrough, the song evolved to reflect different settings and storylines. Season six featured Yarbrough collaborating with Scottish Gaelic artist Griogair Labhruidh, whilst season seven showcased the late Sinéad OConnors powerful interpretation.

if I'm going to be able to bear this last season. I'm so much into this whole series and even though I've read the books, Jamie and Claire on TV are somehow much more real.
When the first book came out, I was doing home health and we were all reading it and discussing it in the office. We pretty much agreed that it couldn't be made into a series because there was NOBODY who could possibly play Jamie. Little did we know that Sam Heughan was still a toddler....

Annie does a wonderful job of singing Bear's song. PS Jamie has been eye candy though out the different stages of the series. Also in Dianne has not writen the final book . The last book was Go Tell the Bees
