grandmother from a northeast city (Melrose). We first took the bus to the subway station and then took the subway to Washington Street in downtown Boston. While supposedly our main goal was to go shopping in Jordan Marsh and Filene's, my Grandmother had another objective. I don't remember the name of the deli, it also was on Washington street, but every time we would go into Boston (couple times a year) we would go to that deli and get our pastrami sandwich, They were pretty much the only pastrami sandwiches I ever ate. They were delicious, but not easily found in Boston's northeast suburbs, My grandmother made sure she got at least one every year, for many years.
By the way, she was Scottish/ British. So not sure where the desire for Pastrami originated.

We always went in at Christmas time to see the Christmas decorations in Jordans and Filene's stores and their windows. That was a BIG deal This was before Malls in New England, most of the big department store were in the larger cities.
