I do Halloween up big, I live at the end of a street. I have a regular horror show with animatronics with the main character a witch who holds the bowl of candy, but don't wake her up when reaching for the candy. My grandson comes from Pittsburgh to be a part of the action, we got 396 kids show up yesterday, they come from surrounding towns.
A little girl dressed up as a good witch holding a wand walked up to the witch with her mother, the mother tripped the witch and the witch howled, but the little girl wasn't scared. I have a remote control spider that I bumped against the little girl's foot, the mother tells the girl, that was a spider, and then mom tells me, she's blind. I take the spider and let her feel it, feel the 8 legs as she counts them. Mom then took her around to my other animatronics as I tripped them and mom let her touch them all.
The little girl was so intelligent, she waved her wand and said she was going to make the world so happy. I almost cried, what a beautiful happy child. I told mom she should be proud of her. Our best trick or treater ever, she gave me the best treat of all, my eyes are watery now.

(7,993 posts)I used to have a neighbor who went all out for Halloween. Spooky music, fog out the front door, a witch or bat that would fly across the sidewalk on a bit of fishing line... And the Mom would do fortune telling or palm reading in her wonderfully bohemian outfits.

(30,849 posts)We had a bat with a sensor hanging from a tree. A crow sitting atop the mailbox. A 4 foot 2 inch sewer rat, the fog was supposed to be sewer gas. A 9 foot tall spider and a small jumping spider, a remote control spider hiding under the witches dress.
The big draw is the witch holding the bowl of candy whose head flies back and her eyes glow white as she screeches. We have a 2nd bowl of candy for little ones who are afraid of the witch.
A mother told me that her son told her he wanted to come back to prove he wasn't afraid of the witch.
We made up fake foot pads in front of the animatronics to get them close to the critters when grandson and I controlled the real foot pads.
One mother told me that her son made her bring him back this year to show he wasn't afraid of the witch.
