I've watched a lot of funny comedy shows and there are a couple that stand out. My favorite comedy show is The Big Bang Theory. The characters are great and the writers wrote great scenes and lines.
Runner up shows are:
Doc Martin
Seinfeld
Home Improvement
Newhart
Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in

(55,653 posts)i'll give a ton of credit for the simpsons managing to still be funny despite being on since forever. very few shows manage to stay relevant and funny for anything near that long.
not to mention, even the best comedy shows are hit or miss. it's kinda in the nature of comedy.
and most tv shows quickly become formulaic and predictable. predictability can be comforting for dramatic shows, but it's the death of comedy.

(4,143 posts)As a whole series I love 'Allo, 'Allo, and Fawlty Towers.
For political satire, Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister are incredible.
For non-English, C.U. Burn is grand.

(8,257 posts)WKRP had a great cast. Barney started out a little uneven but improved every year. Both shows left on top, saving us the inevitable slow decline, such as MASH.

(236 posts)Her old show with that great cast was so funny they used to crack each other up. You could tell at times they had a hard time staying in character without losing it.
Great comedy and talent.

Though I'm not sure I'll ever watch Home Improvement ever again after finding out Tim Allen is all in on MAGA.

(10,622 posts)Because it is timeless. I can sit down today and watch an episode and laugh til I am crying and breathless. There are a bunch of great comedies - many mentioned above, but Carol Burnett is the boss.
