No Friday night drinking thread last night. I'm sorry. I missed you. I'm on call this weekend.

Looking forward to next Friday. Getting buzzed, watching the Great British Baking Show, and hanging out with my beloved Loungers.

Thank God for nurse triage. Trained, battle-hardened professionals who have no reservations about telling a caller “This sounds like something that can wait for your primary care provider”, or “Do you really expect me to wake up the on-call provider for this shit???”

So no more getting calls on the ‘emergency’ line at 3 in the morning like: “Yeah, I just have some questions about COVID-19…”

There are some recipes in my bar book that I will never try. The ones the call for grapefruit juice or (ugh!) clam juice, for example.

Otherwise, there are still hundreds left to experience. There’s a whole chapter on cocktails made with sake. So I need to get a bottle of it.

You will have to let us know about the sake. Only tried it once, not a fan.

I tried a Paloma. Again, not a fan.

Also not a huge fan, but like a lot of things in life, maybe I was doing it wrong.

Especially when that call comes at 2am and you're in a deep sleep. I spent many years in that life.

Have a nice, uneventful weekend!

They vet the calls to see if they're worth waking up the on-call provider. My old employer didn't have nurse triage. I got some of the stupidest non-emergency calls in the middle of the night imaginable.

*Half-awake, stifling a yawn* "Hello?..."

"Yeah, can you refill medication X for me?"

"How long have you been out of it?"

"Oh...about three weeks."

They called in the middle of the night, instead of during office hours at anytime in a three-week period. Like I don't need to be well-rested for the next day of clinic...
