We are now part of the Landed Gentry

We have our own flat in Munich now. What an experience. We started late February. On again, off again finances and waiting times. The last delay was waiting 7 weeks for the Land Registry to let us know we could have it. Think your county recorder.
Yesterday we gave final authorization to our bank to disperse the funds. Keys tomorrow.

Now the real fun begins. Installing a new kitchen and moving.
The good news is it is barrier free so that will help as we age.

As usual, including most rentals, you get 4 walls, floor and ceiling. This will be the 3rd kitchen I've installed in 10 years living here. Hopefully the last.

We chose Panama where we found a modest beachfront apartment on the Pacific coast. The bathrooms and kitchen are being upgraded for much less than we’d pay in the States.

Affordable living, great healthcare, delicious food, lovely people and a comfortable climate. We’re psyched!

Good luck in your new home, Old Crank!

The weather is good here, in the summer. We have a great biergarten way toooo close to us. We will travel more in the winter to southern climes.

Enjoy Panama.

I was stationed in Germany twice; once in the 80s and once in the 90s, and I love it. I was in the countryside fairly far from a large city but I loved the cleanliness, the weather, the food, and the people. Even when I visited cities like Frankfurt or Cologne I felt safe and welcomed. The only problem for me to live in Germany is lack of being able to speak or read German. I tried learning German while I was there but my proficiency in the language was on par with a four year old. But I did learn that if I tried speaking to Germans in their language they'd start speaking English to me.

And in Munich so many people speak English and want to practice if you faulted they switch to English.
I have trouble distributing the words with my bad hearing. My wife is now fluent. I have been complemented on my abilities but I think they are being nice to an old man. I need to get people to slow down for me to have a chance to understand anything other than simple stuff.
