Should I " tip" the Starbucks drive-thru server for bill of $11.00?

If one orders a latte and say sandwich the cost is around $11.00.... I just need to get feedback regarding this sometimes annoying, in your face to tip kind of customer service.

I am not sure the effort for a tip rises to the level of a sitdown, inside server at a table...then the tip when I leave one is $1.00 at the Starbucks window ....

What is the DU concensus regarding this, in your face/ tip-me approach?

That is ridiculous.. Handing someone something through a window is not entering your car, but whatever hlthe2b Monday #17
I didnt say they entered, just looking or smelling some car interiors warrants an extra tip Blues Heron Monday #18

I don't think I'd get upset at DUers that don't want to tip in that setting, but I typically do so nonetheless--even though they are NOT coming out to my car, but merely HANDING me my order. Still, dealing with the public is hard work so they earn the tip for sure!

Also, one is exposing the person to the inside of ones vehicle- that could qualify for extra hardship duty tips depending

Like I said, I think they earn the tip just dealing with the public. Make that your argument and I'm with you.

was actually the opposite. Conservatives and people who are financially well-off tend to be more on the cheap side, having little or no experience working for $2.00 an hour plus tips.

that they give you with their huge, fake smiles. They really believe they are doing "God's work".

I take it that you've waited tables too!

You’re tipping the barista who made the drink.

Baristas are the exception I make for tipping with take out food.

For both Starbucks and indie coffee roasters.

Common practice is for cash tips to be pooled and shared at the end of the shift.

Tips added via debit/credit card depends on the generosity and honesty of the employer.

It was at a restaurant that was a clone of Red Lobster. Made $3.35 an hour, or approx. $15 a night.

Servers would snatch up every tip left on the table and some bragged how they made over $100 in tips on a busy night. Once, one of them gave me $1.

That's why, when they asked me if I wanted to wait tables instead of bussing, I said yes.
Sunday mornings at a fancy place that were known their eggs benedict. My hourly wage went down, but those nearly got me to double. A bit less than that on Saturday morning & Wednesday nights.
But, we did throw 10% into a kitty for bussers. So, I made a little even before I switched to waiting tables.

It's a shame what retailers and the service industry pays workers, not even a living wage, really. So I usually tip, thank the server but grit my teeth at the thought of some restaurant CEOs making tens of millions per year and shareholders rolling in the dough.

What about convenience store clerks, dry cleaning attendants, or store cashiers that fall into that category?

Who fills up their gas tank (self serve) and goes inside to tip the gas station attendant 15% ?

they have to meet a goal of so many seconds for each order. It looks like a very stressful job and they often
have to deal a-hole customers. I would give them a tip. Starbucks is about the biggest scam in history, on
cold drinks they fill the cup with ice and add 8 ounces at best of drink. Ice tea is like ice 4 ounces tea and 4 ounces water.
