(20,079 posts)Theres no way to measure his greatness or magnitude as a person or as a player. I dont think any eulogizing will do him justice. He was that great, much more than a superb musician, with an uncanny ear and dexterity. Hes the very spirit personified of whatever is Muddy River country at its core and screams up into the spheres. He really had no equal. To me he wasnt only a musician and friend, he was more like a big brother who taught and showed me more than hell ever know. Theres a lot of spaces and advances between The Carter Family, Buddy Holly and, say, Ornette Coleman, a lot of universes, but he filled them all without being a member of any school. His playing was moody, awesome, sophisticated, hypnotic and subtle. Theres no way to convey the loss. It just digs down really deep.

(3,868 posts)Melancholy alert...
Impossible to believe it's been almost thirty years.
August ninth will also mark nine years since my hubby passed.

(20,079 posts)I am sorry to read of your husband's passing.
Where does the time go?
Yes, it is hard to believe...30 years.
On that day, I was driving to the bank to close on a mortgage re-finance.
Heard it on the radio about a mile from the bank. I had to pull over.

(3,868 posts)People kept coming into my office telling me Jerry was dead.
For hours, I said no, just a rumor, he's Dead.
Acceptance, finally, and I drove home, stupefied.
